On temporary hiatus from professional performance, he is in the final stages of a Master of Music Education degree at Northwestern University. A strong believer in public schools, Eric's emphasis is on choral music education. But he is especially interested in portfolio assessment, technology and multimedia applications in music education, high school vocational studies in recording technology, composition as a teaching tool, popular music performance for young people, comprehensive musicianship, and expansion and improvement of music education curriculum through non-performance course offerings. He recieved his Bachelor of Arts degree from Macalester College in St. Paul, MN.
Music Preferences and Other Interests
Eric especially values creativity, individuality and personalized storytelling in the popular music to which he listens. His musical preferences lean away from a cappella towards P-Funk, Lyle Lovett, Ani Difranco, Peter Gabriel, Vance Gilbert, Sting, various bluegrass groups, a wide range of classical choral ensembles, early vocal music from before 1600, vocal jazz, Greazy Meal, Steeplejack, Punsapaya, Knee Deep Shag, and any number of other interesting but obscure bands. Eric also has a special affinity for National Public Radio. Other interests include motorcycling, science fiction, learning to code PHP, cooking, songwriting, dogs, Magic the Gathering, and the wonderful world of the Internet.
