I started singing when I was two (my mother has it on a dusty cassette tape) and started taking piano lessons at age five. After twelve years of lessons, I completed the Advanced Certificate of Merit in Music Theory and Piano Performance. In high school, I was a drama kid and performed in musicals and a pseudo show choir group called Broadway Bound that was anything but.
My a cappella experience began when I became a founding member of the USC Sirens. I was the group's first music director, a position I held for three years, and during my senior year I planned our tour. The Siren's first four years of existence were productive ones. We recorded 2.2 albums, secured a few BOCA appearances, swept the CARAs and toured the East Coast and Hawaii. I arranged about 20 songs for the group. A couple of my arrangement/solos have appeared on BOCA and won CARAs.
In law school, I restarted the mixed group Scales of Justice and directed for three years. For a year after law school, I joined a new community group, Underground Sound (now known as Invoxication), as its music director.
I have had the pleasure of judging several ICCA events and was a judge at the first Sojam, where I also gave a workshop on women in a cappella. I have also served as a nominator and judge for the CARAs. In 2002, I was awarded a Varsity Vocals scholarship for my contributions to collegiate a cappella. I began reviewing for RARB in March 2000 and retired in early 2004. I rejoined RARB in January 2007, when I realized that a cappella was almost gone from my life!
After earning a B.S. in chemical engineering from USC, a J.D. from the University of Chicago, teaching pre-law for a year, and practicing IP and Antitrust law for almost 3 years, a job I couldn't pass up came my way. As of June 2008, I am now a full-time mommy to a wonderful baby girl. We listen to RARB submissions together.
