Shawn Pearce's RARB Bio

picture of Shawn

Past History: Alumnus of Penn State University, majored in Music Education while an undergrad, still trying to gather money to finish up those last few courses I need for the B.S. (That's why I'm an alumnus and not a graduate) While an undergrad, sang for 4 of my five years there...first singing experience was a 50's style a cappella group called The Dreamers, a group I stayed with for over six years. (Alumni are permitted to sing with the group.) The other group I was in as an undergrad was None of the Above, Penn State's first coed group.

Once I was forced to leave school, I didn't want to quit a cappella.. I formed a summer group called the Pennharmonics that became a regular school year group the following fall (A special rule in the Penn State bylaws allows community members to participate in student organizations). Since that time, I have directed two other school groups here at PSU (a return engagement with None of the Above, and an interim directorship with the Dreamers that allowed me to take that years group to the semifinals of the National Championship of College A Cappella). Currently I am the business manager of the Pennharmonics, and am the Central PA ambassador for CASA. During the summertime, I also direct/co-direct the A Cappella Project, a summers-only group that acts as a recruiting tool for PSU groups in specific and a cappella in general.

I've been a reviewer off and on for about five years now, and I truly enjoy being able to share what I think about a cappella recorded music. And as long as I get my reviews in on time, I should be able to continue doing so. =)
