December, 2012

Dear Readers,

As the holidays approach and the year comes to a close, it is my pleasure to submit to you the first annual RARB year-end roundup! Our aim is to make these a yearly tradition so that you, our much appreciated readers, might get to know a bit more about what has been going on "off the record", so to speak.

2012 saw the departure of one of the elder statesmen of our organization, Ben Stevens, whose tenure as RARB's coordinator was influential in creating the standard of quality that is our hallmark today. Ben is of course sorely missed within our ranks, but we took his departure as an opportunity to restructure our internal workings so as to create an even more focused, dedicated staff with which to move RARB forward.

Michael Marcus continues on in his role as Webmaster and Publisher, and Ben's job of coordinator has now been split into two positions. The first, filled by Kimberly Sailor, is that of Editor-in-Chief. Kimmie is tasked with the internal management of RARB, from assigning current reviewers to their respective projects, to finding and developing new reviewers, and lastly, implementing final editing decisions on individual reviews. The second position, filled by me, is that of Marketing Director. Whereas Kimmie deals with our internal affairs, my job is serving as a liaison to the public, answering emails, and guiding the design and image of RARB. The three of us form a supporting tripod on which RARB has been running since the beginning of the year.

And what a year it has been! For the first time since our founding in 1994, RARB has a brand new logo (designed by Melanie Lapovich) that proudly adorns all of our social media pages. The logo is Phase One in the exciting process of completely redesigning RARB — a project that will culminate in the unveiling of a brand new website in 2013!

This new site will have some fantastic new content and capabilities, including an easily searchable database of all our published reviews! In addition, we will be adding new goodies such as reviews of digital singles, easier access to audio, and a few surprises that we can't wait to share with you!

We've also added new staff this year, who include Dave Bernstein, Jessica Vaughan, Malcolm Piper, and Nicole Milano. We also had an internal promotion: Thomas "TeKay" King is now an Editorial Assistant.

As always, none of our efforts would be possible without your support! Whether you are a regular reader, a longtime a cappella fan, a member of a group whose work we have reviewed, or an Internet surfer just stopping by, we thank you for your continued support of RARB and all that we do.

Warmly,

Robert Dietz
RARB Marketing Director
